5/26 I've got some good news, some GREAT news and some REALLY GREAT news!
The good news is, FUNimation is working on toning down some of the "goofy"
dialogue. While this does not mean we notice any difference in the next couple of tapes,
I've been told we will most likely notice a change in the style and attitude of the
episodes over a period of time. Now, listen up everybody. This is important. Just because
we write to FUNimation expressing our want for a complete direct translation, does not
neccessarily mean we will get it any time soon. I've been assured that FUNimation is
reading just about everything sent in their direction be it good or bad, but I've also
been assured that this does not mean we will get a direct translation. Which is actually
okay with me considering the following, the music will improve, the voice actors are
becoming more familliar with their roles and will be fitting their characters' better, the
"goofiness" will be toned down. I should add, that this does not mean you
should neccessarily stop sending your opinions to FUNimation, but it also does not
neccessarily mean we will get everything we asked for, besides, DBZ is uncut now, and
quite honestly, that's what we always asked for.
Important note! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEND FROTHING, ANGRY LETTERS! I'm sure
many of you remember Sailor Moon was on the USA Network a few years ago. Well the USA
Network canned Sailor Moon because they received too many nasty letters. The same COULD
happen with DBZ on Cartoon Network, and if DBZ isn't on Cartoon Network, well, that just
about eliminates everything we ever worked for. So if you're going to send negative
e-mail, please present it in a mature fashion.
Now, that was the good news. Here's the great news! Now don't get too excited, but there's
a chance for commercially released sub-titled DBZ in America! Now before you go nuts,
let me explain the complexities. FUNimation was going to undertake the task themselves,
however, the rights to seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ now belong to Pioneer Entertainment. So what
can we do? I'll tell you what we can do! We're going to literally FLOOD Pioneer with
positive e-mail for sub-titled versions of seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ! What I want you
guys to send them is a positive letter expressing your interest in subbed versions of
seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ. Tell them how badly you want it! Tell them how your poor little
brother Timmy's last wish before he passes away is to see subbed DBZ! (just kidding!). But
here's the important part. Don't forget to tell them you're willing to pay for it! In
order for this to work, we need literally thousands of fans to mail them. (I'm completely
serious). So please alert everyone from your friends at school to the mailman! Send out
chainmails via e-mail telling people to e-mail Pioneer. Let other DBZ sites know about
this plan. We need to form a huge DBZ conglomerate that's going to express our want for a
subbed version of DBZ, JUST like we did with FUNimation in order to make season 3
possible. You can e-mail Pioneer here
to let them know how you feel!
Here's the REALLY GREAT news! Now, this is not in concrete, but if all goes well
with season 3 of DBZ and beyond, FUNimation may consider going back later on and
subbing what they dubbed. This means we need to support FUNimation so that they can
continue their work. Buy the episodes, watch DBZ20XL, send supportive letters to Cartoon
Network, I really don't care what you do, just makes sure that it's positive and supports
FUNimation for their hard work! Trust me on this, even FUNimation themselves see ALL of
DB/Z being shown in America, however, in order for that vision to be realized, we have
to work together! You with me on this? Good!
In related news, the next set of tapes are nearing completion and will be on sale at the
end of June. I've been told by several sources that the new tapes are already in certain
stores, (I should also mention that FUNimation is reaching new markets with the new
episodes! Expect to see the new tapes for sale in your nearby Target, MusicLand, Best Buy
and maybe even Wal Mart stores). The cut version of the new season will air on Cartoon
Network at the beggining of this September.
